The Truth About Fibroid a Leading Cause Of Infertility.

   Uterine fibroids are one of the most common conditions affecting women in  their 20s,30s and 40s.But what are fibroids exactly?and what's the connection between uterine fibroids and fertility?

    WHAT ARE UTERINE FIBROIDS?
Uterine fibroids are benign(noncancerous) tumors of muscle tissue in the uterus.They are also called MYOMAS or LEIOMYOMAS.fibriods occur when a single muscle cell in the wall of the uterus multiples and grows to form a noncancerous tumor.fibroids can change the shape or size of the uterus and sometimes the cervix(lower part of the uterus).women usually have  more than one fibroids tumor but single fibroids are possible.  Fibroids are usually found in or around the body of the uterus,but sometimes are in the cervix.There are three main types of fibroids based on where they are found;
(I)SUBSEROSAL FIBROIDS;are in the outer wall of the uterus (55%).
(II) INTRAMURAL FIBROIDS;are found in the muscular layers of the uterine wall (40%).
(III) SUBMUCOSAL FIBROIDS;it protrudes into the uterine cavity or inside the interior lining of the uterus (5%).
   The exact cause of uterine fibroids is unclear,but there is evidence that it may be a combination of genetic, hormonal and environmental factors.
   Approximately 5%-10% of infertile women have fibroids.There are several ways uterine fibroids can reduce fertility.
*Changes in the shape of the cervix can affect the number of sperm that enter the uterus.
*Change in the shape of the uterus can interfere with the movement of sperm or embryo.
*Fallopian tubes can be blocked by fibroids.
*Blood flow to the uterine cavity can be affected.This can decrease the ability of an embryo to stick(implant)to the uterine wall or to develop.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN WITH FIBROID                DURING PREGNANCY?
   Fibroids are found in 2%to 12% of pregnant women,but not all fibroids get larger or cause Problems in  a pregnancy.if a fibroid grows,it usually does so in the first 12weeks of pregnancy.
   The biggest concern in pregnancy is whether the fibroids will increase the chance of preterm birth or miscarriage.in some cases,fibroids can outgrow their blood supply and cause severe pain.Hospitalization might be needed.Also,fibroids can change the baby's position in the uterus.this can increase the risk of miscarriage, preterm delivery and cesarean section.
Uterine fibroids are common and can affect fertility in many ways.They can affect whether sperm and egg meet,they can affect whether an embryo can implant,they can affect whether a pregnancy can continue,and they can affect the growth and positioning of the baby.
   For women with large fibroids, multiple fibroids or fibroids that press on other organs,they can experience;
*Long heavy periods.
*Irregular menstrual bleeding.
*Painful intercourse.
*Miscarriage.
*Pain or pressure in the pelvis.
*Back pain.
*Leg pain.
*Frequent urination.
*Constipation or other symptoms that affect their health and quality of life.

WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN UTERINE FIBROIDS AND FERTILITY?
   For some women, there's a relationship between uterine fibroids and fertility that can make it difficult to get or stay pregnant.fibroids don't interfere with OVULATION,but they can prevent the uterus from doing what it's supposed to do to support conception and pregnancy.
   The most common fibroids affecting fertility are SUBMUCOSAL fibroids.it's possible that fibroids divert blood flow from the endometrium(uterine lining),preventing it from thickening and impeding the implantation of a fertilized egg or the development of an embryo.
   SUBSEROSAL fibroids on the outside of the uterus can block the cervix or fallopian tubes,obstructing the journey of sperm or a fertilized egg.large fibroids or multiple fibroids that alter the structure of the uterus may cause miscarriage because they limit the uterus' ability to stretch and grow to accommodate a developing embryo.it is suggested that these tumors have to be removed prior to pregnancy.there are natural ways to treat these tumors without having to go under the knife.these fertility treatment eventually lead to delivery of a healthy baby.
